| Kali Limenes Village in South Crete, Heraklion |

Either way the trip is really worth it. Kali Limenes has a lovely long whitecoloured beach (see Kali Limenes Beach) with relatively unspoilt scenery and clear water. There are a couple of rocks in the sea in front of the beach and a small island with some oil storage tanks. While we were there it was as good as deserted. We didn't see any hotels except for one, but this one appeared to have been closed years ago. On the beach there's one small taverna. This is one of the nicest beaches we found on Crete so far.

Pigaidakia has a few sharp corners to negotiate, but it's much easier than the dirt track.
Kali Limenes itself is unspoilt - away from the wind, sheltered, and lovely clear water. Worth the trip if you're based in the Mires/Kalamaki area - much better than Matala, which has turned into a tourist dump.
The road is narrow and sinuous and it can easily lead you to a terrible accident if you dont keep your eyes on the road when you driving. The cliffs are high and if you have vertigo, you will have to take a helicopter to leave the area.
However, on the eastern side of Kali Limenes at the end of the road, there is a very nice family hotel that was built in 2002 or 2003. The hotel has a nice pool and it is very clean and new. The view of the sea is amazing.
