In the prefecture of Rethymno the Prassano Gorge is one of the most impressive gorges. It is located between the northern end of the Potami valley and the village of Platanias at the north coast. This gorge has very impressive high rock walls where the biggest colony of griffon vultures in Crete has their nests. The walk through the gorge is 11km long and is, because of the amount of water, only possible to walk from the summer months.
