It is relatively easy to cross the gorge of Vorizia, however, it is better if you have experienced hikers in your group. The route starts in the west exit (see the map) of the village of Vorizia, where the entrance of the gorge is located.

The first section of the route (800 meters long) is characterized by the logs of centuries-old olive trees. Then, the gorge narrows and its walls become more steep and impressive, reaching an altitude of 200 meters.

After about 35 minutes of walking, the gorge becomes wider and the route moves away from the river bed, following the left slope with a north direction, in order to skip the small waterfall.

Next, you will enter a forest area with oak trees. The walls are no longer steep; however, you will see impressive geological formations and rocky slopes. After 35 minutes of walking, you will reach the position "Sohora", where the river bed branches to the northeast. You will follow the north branch of the river bed and then head uphill. When the vegetation becomes scarcer you will be at the end of the route.

If you continue walking to the north, towards the steep slope, you will reach the south entrance of the plateau of Nida. However, we suggest you finish your walk where the river bed branches and head back to where you started.

Note:
The point you reach after completing the uphill route, after the oak tree forest -in the opening that leads to the plateau of Nida- is known by the name "Poros Milias". From this point, three other interesting uphill walking trails start: one that leads to the west, to the position "Sela tou Digeni" (Digenis' Saddle), also known as the Black Peak, one to the position of "Alikadam" to the east, and one to the summit of Timios Stavros, to the northwest (the highest summit of Crete).
