Lousakies is a small out of the way of the tourists village, built 4 km south of Kastelli or Kissamos and 44km Hania city from amphitheatrically on the top of a hill. The village commands an imposing view to the north of the gulf of Kissamos and to all other directions of the fertile valley.

Most people here live off farming. Kastelli offers lots of shopping facilities, tavernas, banks, a post office and medical service. From here there is regular bus service to Hania. Several nice sandy beaches are situated close by, e.g. Falassarna.

The village is also known for its folklore, traditions and is the birthplace of Stephanos Triantafylakis who was a founder of Cretan traditional dance first recorded in 1750. Every 15th August the village holds a wonderful religious celebration with traditional food, music and dancing. There are also plans to open a folk museum in the old primary school of the village with exhibits from all over the region of Kissamos.
