The starting point of the trail is the dirt road which starts 50 meters after the cross-road in Kampos Doxarou village leading to Vossakos monastery. A parking place exist at the central church of the village, next to the main road. Finishing point: The same as the starting point
Access: The trail of Doxaro – Vossakos folds can be accessed from the village Kampos Doxarou of Kouloukonas Municipality, Rethimno Prefecture. Visitors can use public busses to Kampos Doxarou or their private vehicles.

Summary
The visitor of the trail of “Doxaro – Vossakos folds” wonders along an area that can be regarded as representative of the cretan landscape and culture, with an additional highlight, the impressive succession of the Vossakos folds. It is an easy walking track for all the family which moves along dirt roads, old trails, the light-traffic, paved road leading to Vossakos monastery. The track starts from the Kampos Doxarou village located in one of the most beautiful valleys of Crete, the Mylopotamos valley. Walking along pretty orchards the tracker approaches first the old village of Doxaro with its nice old stone-houses and yards, enters the old cobbled pavement connecting in old times the nearby settlements and climbs along the green covered slopes of the hill. Along its way to the top of the hill the visitor will see Just over Doxaro the old dry stone shepherds buildings, the Mitata, with theirs yards and αλώνια, old olive groves in nicely arranged terraces, and many wild flowers of Crete, depending the season (Geranium sp., Orchis sp., Ranunculus sp., Anthemis chia). Vegetation is getting less as the track approaches the hill top, and the rocks appear most obvious.

The typical platy marble of Crete crops out along the slopes and road cuts, exposing sponge fossils and angular folds in several locations. White marbles appear in the old quarry where calcite crystals can be also found. The intense earth forces that created millions of years ago the mountains of Crete unveil their strength in the marvelous section of Vossakos folds along the paved road to Vossakos monastery. The intercalations of the gray marble and white silica layers offer a spectacular view in the variable, angular, tight or open folding of the platy marble. The way back to Kampos Doxarou uses again old tracks and dirt roads totally covered by tall plane trees, erica, and many other wild flowers (cyclamens, anemone etc.)

Difficulties - Dangers
The trail Doxaro – Vossakos folds is an easy track to walk along earth roads and old trails that do not present any difficult sections or dangers. Climbing uphill is not tiresome as altitude increases gradually without being tedious even for kids or non-trained tracker. The part of the trail which follows the paved road to Vossakos monastery do not include any serious danger as there its length is very small and the traffic is very light. Only shepherds and visitors of the monastery can be seen.

Weather problems might appear at the eastern part of the trail and only in summer. Lack of trees in this part and high temperatures might bother visitors from northern Europe which should take care the hot sun and lack of water. In any case, as along the track there are only two sites with drinkable water (Kampos Doxarou and Doxaro villages), it is suggested that the needed quantities of water should be ensured in advance.
