This unsophisticated, rural, Cretan village of 1300 inhabitants, has been relatively unaffected by the inroads of tourism despite its superb nearby beaches, where you can enjoy water sports and swimming. The traditional factor is blended in harmony with the modern, offering to the visitor the convenience of the present time, as well as the jauntiness of the past. The village is valued for the archaeologists, because of its rich archaeological sites. There is a folklore museum, too. There are a lot of taverns and restaurants, where traditional meals are served.
You can also find fresh fish in some of them. Don't miss it! You can enjoy your coffee or your ice-cream in one of the cafes in the square. For the lovers of night life, there are a couple of bars and one disco.You can also find any shops in the village. There is also a community clinic, a pharmacy and a post office. A lot of couples choose our town hall to get married. Think about it!
Palekastro is the ideal place for winter holidays and you can use it as a base for touring eastern Crete.

The nearest beach (Chiona) is about a 20 minute walk away and Kouremenos beach is also some 20 - 25 min. Quite basic but fine for swimming. There are also three tavernas at Chiona beach and another 3 at Kouremenos there if you need food or drink. The one on the road to the Chiona beach has an outside barbeque which produces delicious fresh grilled fish. If you've got a car the next well known beach along (Palm Beach Vai) has sunbeds and shades for rent and is a little more sophisticated.
All in all a lovely holiday area if you just want to relax, eat good food and discover Greek friendlyness and culture.
Planning to get away from it all? You have chosen well for that amazing well deserved break on Palekastro holidays. Steeped in olive groves and the heat of the sun you can easily fall in love with Eastern Crete. With little tourists in this resort you will have a real sense of the Cretan way of life on Palekastro.
Beaches
Hiring a scooter has never been so much fun where you can race it down to the beach to enjoy the sun and sand on holidays to Palekastro. With a choice of Kouremenos Beach and Chiona Beach you can stretch out on these golden sands with the wind beating through your hair. Holidays to Palekastro are still untouched and quite rugged and you will enjoy catching the waves with some windsurfing. The lively Vai Beach filled with palm trees is the most beautiful around and only 6 miles away.

At Palekastro take a trip to the remains of the Minoan Palace of Zakros which was built in 1700BC.
