Due to its geographical location, between Apokoronas and Rethimno, it used to be in the past and especially during the turkish occupation, the theatre of numerous battles. Episkopi is accessible by regular bus transportation from the city of Rethimnon.
Hiking with the Naturalist Club Heraklion (fysi.gr): Our course started from the green Argyroupolis in Rethymnon. We walked for a while in the area of ancient Lappa and Five Maidens. Then we went to the top of the village Kufi, where we started walking through the gorge of Petre, coming out on the Episkopi beach.
