The church of the monastery, that of Timios Stavros (Holy Cross) was built in 1195, but was demolished twice and rebuilt. The current church building mainly originates from the end of the19th century. The fountain of the monastery was manufactured in 1673. Few elements of the monastery's history are known. We only know that it functioned during the period of Venetian rule and that a lot of building or repair work occured after its destruction by the Turkish forces in 1646. In 1821 it was at the peak of its power and influence, but was burned during the revolution and most resident monks were butchered. It actively participated in the revolution of 1866. Its decline began after the Second World War.

We reach the monastery of Vosako after passing the village of Doxaro in Kouloukonas municipality, Rethimno prefecture. The monastery of Vosako is built according to feudal architecture following the style and design of its times.
