Τhe Municipal Gallery "L. Kanakakis" was founded in 1992. From its beginning it was housed in a Venetian building in the heart of the old, historical town of Rethymno, below the Fortezza and the Archaeological Museum.

The Toplou monastery and its small museum is situated 6 km north from Palekastro and 7km before Palm Beach Vai at the east coast.

A small but informative museum in Archanes village, 18km south of Heraklion Town, which contains finds from the town and the surrounding sites. On display are some well-preserved Minoan larnakes (clay coffins) from the Nekropolis at Fourni dating from around 1800 BC, as well as some engraved gold rings.

This War Museum in Askifou village (Askifou Plateau), Chania Prefecture, was founded by George Hazidakis following the events of May 1941 in Crete. Mr Hazidakis has collected all the items on display after the war, and his son Andreas subsequently opened the museum to the public.

The Mosque of Mastabas is the home of this new museum in Rethymnon. Under the wings of the Goulandris Natural History Museum, this authentic 9-dome monument has been restored and the surrounding area have been turned into a botanic garden with endemic Cretan plants, trees and bushes.

A new ecclesiastical museum has opened near to the official cathedral in Rethymnon.

The museum is compact — just one room, but exhibits have been carefully selected and thoughtfully laid out.

The Centre for Cretan Popular Art is a 'living' museum in Rethymnon.  When visiting the Centre, you can watch craftsmen busy at work and talk to them about their art.  At the moment there are areas for weaving/embroidery, ceramics, bookbinding, wood turning and sculptures.
