After 23 km from Rethymno city is the beautiful village of Agios Vassilios which is built among vine and olive groves and gave its name to the hole county. During the the 2nd Byzantine period it was the seat of the district of Kato Sivritos and during the Venetian occupation the seat of the Casteliana Baseio.

The village of Akoumia with a population of approximately 900 is directly alongside the main road connecting Rethymnon and Agia Galini. It is located at 530 m above sea level and is 39 km from Rethymnon. Passing by one, sees the bakery and coffee shop-taverna alongside the road. The buildings lining the road all look fairly modern.

Argiroupolis is a traditional village of the county of Rethymno, built at 260m a.s.l. between the rivers "Mousselas" and "Petres" and 6km north from Asi Gonia. It lies 22km from the national road Rethimno-Chania and 5km from Episkopi. Its 700 inhabitants are mainly farmers and stock breeders. There is a police station, post office, gas station, taverns and other tourist facilities.

The village of Archontiki is located on a hill, 21km from Rethymno and 12km far from Kournas lake, built at 180m a.s.l. close the river "Mousselas".
The view is spectacular to west and to the north coast (see Episkopi beach)

Just before (northern) the Kotsifos gorge in Plakias area, is the road to the village Kali Sikia located a few kilometers to the west. The raod has on its left the gorgeous summit of Tsilivdikas and the impressive Kaliskiano gorge.

Selia is a small village between Rodakino and Plakias and cose to Kotsifou gorge. Standing 280m over the sea, you can walk here in one hour from Plakias. The view to every side is breathtaking and specialy to Plakias bay and to Mirthios village. It’s a sleepy traditional village with a less touristy feel than Mirthios.

Situated some 30 km South of the town of Rethymno, approximately in the middle of the island of Crete, Spili has everything for the visitor who wants to experience ''natural Crete''. Mount Vorizi which hovers over the town is impressive, but wait until you walk up the side streets of this village to be really impressed.
