The route starts from the southern point of the beach of Kato Zakros. For information please contact the local tavernas, to provide orientation to the starting point. Initially we walk for about 50 meters by the sea and over the rocks.

Soon we will be at the point where you must turn south, following carefully the red marks on the rocks.

Taking as a starting point Palekastro square, you walk east, through Agathias settlement and going further in a dust road among the olive trees. Avoiding to get lost on your way, it's better to pay great attention on the map we provide you.

Palekastro - Hiona beach - Plakos. Total length of run : 7 kms : 1,5 hours (Palekastro - Plakos - Palekastro)

3,5 kms far from Palekastro and just 2 kms far from the famous beach of Hiona the deserted place Plakos lies. There is a dirt road which reaches the last small beach of the area.

Azokeramos - Traostalos (Palekastro-Zakros area). Total length of run : 9 kms - 2 hours (Azokeramos - Traostalos - Azokeramos)

Traostalos Mount is situated between Palekastro and Katos Zakros. It is a wild area and difficult of access. Only the herdsmen can approach and use it for the cattle.

Xerokambos - Agia Irini. Total length of run : 8 kms : 4 hours (Xerokambos - Agia Irini - Xerokambos)

If you desire to be acquainted of eastern Crete, don’t forget to visit Xerokambos, a seaside resort known as a summer holidays’ destination and known because of the lilies grown on the sand.

Palekastro - Agathias - Skinias beach - Karoumes beach - Karoumes gorge - Chochlakies - Palekastro. Total length of run : 12 kms - 4 hours (Palekastro - Chochlakies)

Starting from Palekastro on foot, you will arrive at the small settlement of Agathias in 15 minutes. You walk through the village and in the end you walk on a dust road among olive trees, coming close to the hills, south-east of the settlement.

Kavousi - Gorge - Platanias - Thripti - Papura peak (1020m) Total length of run : 20 kms - 6,5-7,5 hours (Kavousi - Papura peak - Kavousi)

This route which we recommend is one of the most exciting hikes in eastern Crete . A good physical condition is required, but the way is fantastic and our point of view is that you will access the most impressive place of the Sitian Mountains.

Agios Georgios - Katofigi Cave - Total length of run : 1 - 1,5 hours (Agios Georgios - Katofigi Cave - Agios Georgios)

The point that you are to start trekking to the Katofigi cave, is about 200 m after the crossroads of Agios Georgios, on the national road Sitia – Ierapetra and 15 km from Sitia. This sign is on the national road. You will have to walk the first 300 m on a craggy path.

One of the most spectacular hikes of eastern Crete is the route of extremely beauty between two traditional and historical villages of the area: Zakros and Ziros.

Chrisopigi - Bebonas (- Kavousi)

Total length of run : 8 kms (Chrisopigi - Bebonas - Chrisopigi : 3,5 hours or Chrisopigi - Bebonas - Kavousi : 5,5 hours - 15km!)

The route Hrisopigi –Bebonas– Kavousi is easy to pass and we walk on a dirt road to the end.
