The Historical Archive of Crete was founded in 1920 and its headquarters are in Chania city, west Crete. It is a public inter-prefecture service, a decentralized department of the General Archives of the State and it is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education.

The Heraklion Archaeological Museum is one of the largest and most important museums in Greece, and among the most important museums in Europe.

The Olive Tree Museum of Vouves is located in the village of Ano Vouves, aprox.  30 km west of Chania. Take the Chania – Kissamos national road (E65) and use the Kolimbari exit, in order to proceed west (to the left) towards the Village of Spilia.

The Agricultural Folk Museum is situated at the traditional village of Piskopiano, in the oil mill of the mid 19th Century, 2km south of Hersonissos city and 24 km far from Heraklion.  Today the building is maintained and restored by the Society of Cretan Historic Studies.

The Wooden Sculptures Museum is located at the foot of the sacred mountain of Psiloritis and it is a permanent collection of the sculptor George Koutantos. In Axos Milopotamou, within an hour distance both from the city of Rethymno (45 km) and the city of Heraklion (43 km), in a natural landscape, more than one hundred handmade work arts are exhibited in a new two-storey building 300 s.m, all of them made from a hummer and a chisel.

The Museum of the Battle of Crete and National Resistance (1941-1945) was founded by the Municipality of Heraklion in May 1994.

Τhe Heraklion Museum of Visual Arts, is a non profit organisation which was established in May 2000 by K. Schizakis.

Established in 1994 by Mr.Michael Argirakis at his own expense and housed on the lower floor of his own house, no visit to the island of Crete would be complete without visiting this fascinating museum, not only to the military historian, but to anyone interested in general and local history.

Chromonastiri is a beautiful village 12km south of Rethymno Town, built at the foot of Vrysina mountain and has a population of 358 inhabitants.
