Of special interest are the post-Minoan, early-Geometric findings in the plates of Embaros. At its eastern end, the southwestern edge of Dikti Mountains, the ruins of a settlement and its cemetery have been discovered.

Analysis of votives from a sanctuary site near Roussa Ekklesia village in east Crete, Lassithi prefecture, sheds valuable light on archaic, classical, and Hellenistic cult practices. Part 1 of this study, (an excerpt is the present article), presents a large collection of terracotta plaques and figurines from the sanctuary (ca. 630–450 B.C.E.).

Archaeology: News from finds at the Minoan Palace of Kato Zakros

ATHENS, OCTOBER 24 - Minoan civilisation, and Zakros Palace in particular, are the focus of the 11th International Cretological Congress on October 21-27 in Rethymnon, one of the three big cities on the island.

The church of Agios Antonios and its accompanying medieval tower are in the region of Mirsini village (6km north from the village), 25km west of Sitia Town, in a location not far from the sea, where there was a small settlement for many years.

Valuable information on the daily life of a Minoan farmers family and fishermen in Papadiokampos, 10km west of Sitia, just before the great catastrophe reveals the archaeological research conducted in the region.

Is was a location between Itanos and Praisos (or Pressos). In inscription that was found at Itanos and is referred to 58-57 BC, near Diktaion Andron, cites the city.

Dreros (modern Driros) near Neapolis in the district of Lassithi, Crete, is a post-Minoan archaeological site, 16 km. northwest of Aghios Nikolaos. Known only by a chance remark of the ninth-century Byzantine grammarian Theognostus (De orthographia), archaeology of the site shows Dreros to have been initially colonised by mainland Greeks in the early Archaic Period about the same time as Lato and Prinias.

The coastal route from Aghios Nikolaos city, district of Lassithi,  to the village of Kavousi is very interesting. But the mountainous landscape to the south of this road hides some noteworthy places. The first is the Minoan settlement at Vrokastro, on a hill 1,500 metres south of the village of Istro.

Milatos or Militos (Milatos is located a few km east of Sissi and Malia, approximately 30 km west of Agios Nikolaos and 45 km east of Heraklion) has been made known by Homer too (Iliad, B’), who mentions it amongst the seven other cities that took part in the campaign to seize Troy under Idomeneas and Miriones.
