Frangokastello (the castle of the Franks: this Castle was built in 1371, during the four and a half centuries of Venetian rule) is a charming, peaceful and traditional village on the south coast of Crete, 12km east from Chora Sfakion and 20km west of Plakias, and offers splendid sandy beaches. The water is getting deepen very slowly, so this is the ideal spot for parents to let their children play in the sea. Even 50 meters outside in the sea the water is only knee deep.
