The Agarathos Monastery is 23km from Heraklion city (Heraklion Prefecture) on an exit at 8km of the Heraklion - Agios Nikolaos highway. There are signs on the road that lead to the monastery.

After Marathos village there is a dirt-road on the right towards Fodele. Around 6 km from the crossroad and 30 kilometers from Heraklion city, on the left of the road there is the Monastery of Agios Panteleimonas at a height of 170 metres.

We do not know exactly when the Atalis or Bali Monastery was built. We do know that the first reported renovation was in 1635, when the Venetian rule of the island was almost at its end. Being in the middle of nowhere, the monastery served as an excellent refuge for rebels and outlaws all during the Venetian and Turkish rule.

Kalergi Monastery is a picturesque monastery in Heraklion Prefecture dedicated to Saint John Prodromos, this peaceful place is situated in the southeast of Smari village by Kasteli region, south of the peak of Voukolies, at a distance of two kilometres from Kastelli village.

After the village of Gonia, the road climbs steadily up the western slopes of Mount Dikti or Lassithi Mountains, which are covered with low vegetation (bushes and wild flowers) and with sparse trees.

The Monastery of Faneromeni of Agios Nikolaos is found on a low hill within the archaeological site of the Minoan settlement of Gournia. It is situated at a distance of 24 kilometers eastern to Aghios Nicolaos and 45 kilometers western to Sitia.
