Krassi – Azilakes Forest - Chamoprina - Malia
This walk offers a widely-varied landscape: the pretty Krasi village with its huge deciduous plane tree and arched stone fountains, the Krassi plain with its different cultivations, rocky scrubland, the Azilakes Forest, areas wooded with kermes oak and, finally, the imposing bulk of Mount Selena forming the background to all the above.

This walk takes you through the typical scrub and woodland of the northern foothills of Mt Selena, enjoying a panoramic view of the Sea of Crete.

The Cretan highland

The ferry drives from Gythion - Peloponissos  (three times the week) to the harbor of Kastelli Kissamou (lodging; bus connection to Hania).
The E4 on Crete forks in Sougia in Northern and southern parts.

The starting point of the trail is the dirt road which starts 50 meters after the cross-road in Kampos Doxarou village leading to Vossakos monastery. A parking place exist at the central church of the village, next to the main road. Finishing point: The same as the starting point

Rodakino - Krioneritis Mountain. At the eastern exit of Rodakino village, there is a narrow street, from which a path begins to manoeuvre up the glacis, among the olive trees, for about 2 km until it meets a dirt road, which we follow for some meters.

This is a demanding mountain hike in Zaros area, south slopes of Psiloritis mountains. The total duration of the route is 4 hours. The route starts from the col of "Samari" and reaches the position of "Two Oaks", and from there back to the starting point, the col of "Samari".

Crete´s highest mountain stands in the middle of the island. It is the Psiloritis - also called the Ida mountain.

The massif, covering an area of about 359 km2 consists of several mountain peaks and plateaus - with the Nida plateau as the largest and best known.

The race start point is Nida's plateau, the highest plateau in Crete (average altitude, 1400 m.) The name comes from the articulation of the words "stin Ida", meaning "at Ida", where Ida is the second name of Ida - Psiloritis mountain. The view of the plateau and the feeling that’s created from all the infertile summits around you, trying to reach up the sky, makes right inside you the reason why the spirit of the cretan man transmuted to a deity, why Zeus connected his name with that area…Nida of myths.

Ascent to the peak of Psiloritis or Idi (2.456 m.)

To the peak of the highest mountain of Crete with the strange wild beauty, the sanctuary in ancient times where Zeus was born and had been the home of Kourites and Ideon Dactylon, someone can get to by beginning from Vistagi (or Bistai), a village which mainly is involved in farming and stockbreeding and is located in its south foot.

The “trail of Mygia’s” is an easy walking track for all the family where one could see, in a rather short time all the natural beauties of Psiloritis Mountain. It is a rather easy track just next to the village of Anogeia along the route towards the Nida plateau that combines the geologic with the environmental and anthropogenic features of Psiloritis.
